Cliveden (The Chew House) and the Battle of Germantown

Cliveden, built in 1763 and known as the Benjamin Chew House, served as a fortified British position during the 1777 Battle of Germantown in the Revolutionary War. The stone house still exhibits musket ball and other battle damage from the engagement. It is preserved as a National Historic Landmark and museum interpreting the battle and colonial-era life.
