Ringway Centre

The Ringway Centre is a notable Grade B locally listed building in Birmingham, England, designed by architect James Roberts and completed in 1962. Stretching 230 meters along Smallbrook Queensway, it features a unique sweeping curved facade and was the first part of the Inner Ring Road scheme to be completed. Historically significant, the site was transformed after WWII, with the original Victorian structures replaced following extensive bombing. The building houses office spaces above and street-level commercial units, although many are now derelict. Its innovative design, characterized by concrete construction and abstract relief panels, has been praised as a prime example of mid-20th century urban design. Recent redevelopment plans have sparked local opposition, as the city council approved the demolition of the Ringway Centre to make way for new high-rise towers.
