President's House, Colombo

The President's House in Colombo serves as the official residence and workplace of the President of Sri Lanka. Originally built in the early 19th century as the residence for British Governors, it has a rich history, transitioning from 'King's House' to its current name after Sri Lanka became a republic in 1972. The house has witnessed significant events, including the occupation by protesters during the 2022 Sri Lankan protests. Set within the beautiful Gordon Gardens, which were established in honor of Queen Victoria, the site is historically significant as the point from which all distances in Sri Lanka are measured. Although public access is limited, the President's House remains a symbol of Sri Lankan governance and history.
