Nationals Park opening and franchise relocation

Nationals Park opened in 2008 and has served as the home ballpark for Major League Baseball's Washington Nationals since that season. The Nationals franchise relocated from Montreal (the Expos) after the 2004 season and began playing in Washington in 2005 at RFK Stadium before moving into the new ballpark. The stadium's opening marked the return of a purpose-built MLB venue to Washington, D.C., after decades of the city's teams playing at older multiuse sites.
