National Archives (Rotunda for the Charters of Freedom)

The National Archives building on Constitution Avenue opened in 1935 and houses the Charters of Freedom - the original Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights - on public display in its Rotunda. The Archives preserves federal records and provides public access, research services, and exhibitions related to U.S. governmental and historical documents. The building is a central civic landmark on the National Mall and in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.
