Gorilla House

The Gorilla House, also known as the Round House, is an iconic building located in London Zoo, designed by Modernist architect Berthold Lubetkin and completed in 1933. This Grade I listed structure features a unique cylindrical design made of reinforced concrete and was originally built to house a pair of gorillas from the Congo. Its innovative design includes a rotating semi-circular screen that allowed for seasonal viewing of the animals. Over the years, the Gorilla House has hosted various species, including elephants and chimpanzees, and remains a significant example of 20th-century architecture in a zoological setting.
