Apollo Theater

The Apollo Theater at 253 West 125th Street has been a focal point for African American music and culture since the 1930s and is famous for its long-running Amateur Night which began in 1934. The venue helped launch the careers of numerous prominent performers and remains an active performance space and cultural institution. The Apollo is a designated New York City landmark and is widely associated with the Harlem Renaissance and subsequent music history.
