New Haven District Campground

The New Haven District Campground, also known as the Plainville Campground, is a historic Methodist camp meeting site established in 1865 in Plainville, Connecticut. This unique location, now a community of summer homes, features 89 charming wood-frame cottages with gingerbread decorations, arranged around a central pavilion. Originally a popular destination for 19th-century religious and recreational gatherings, the campground reflects the era's middle-class leisure trends. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and offers a glimpse into the region's cultural history, making it an interesting spot for tourists and researchers alike.
