Ospizio, Floriana

The Ospizio, originally known as the Casa di Carità, is a historic poorhouse located in Floriana, Malta, that served the destitute elderly, poor young women, and mentally ill patients from the 18th to the 19th centuries. Established in 1729, it evolved from a gunpowder factory into a care facility, later becoming a women's prison. The complex, which overlooks Marsamxett Harbour, is currently being restored and will house the Malta International Contemporary Art Space (MICAS). Visitors can explore its rich history, including its architectural features from the 1730s and its role during significant historical events, such as World War I and II.
