Kruger House, Pretoria

Kruger House is the historic residence of Paul Kruger, the Boer leader and President of the South African Republic, located in Pretoria. Built in 1884, it features unique construction methods, including the use of milk in the cement mix. The house is notable for being one of the first in the area to have electricity and is adorned with original furnishings and memorabilia from Kruger's life. A highlight includes two stone lions gifted to Kruger on his birthday in 1896. Now a museum, Kruger House offers visitors a glimpse into the late 19th-century lifestyle and the significant historical events surrounding Kruger, including his departure before the British occupation in 1900. The museum was officially opened in 1934 and is recognized as a National Heritage Site, showcasing a rich collection of artifacts and personal items related to Kruger and his era.
