Detroit Institute of Arts conservation labs and storage

The Detroit Institute of Arts maintains conservation laboratories, object storage, and archives that are not part of the museum's regular galleries and are used for conservation, research, and storage of works not on display. The museum runs occasional 'Behind the Scenes' tours and studio visits that provide limited public access to these areas and to curatorial work. The DIA's conservation department has treated major works such as Diego Rivera's Detroit Industry Murals, and its off‑public storage holds significant parts of the permanent collection.
