PC Hoofthuis

The PC Hoofthuis is a notable educational building of the University of Amsterdam, located in central Amsterdam. Constructed between 1976 and 1983 by architects Theo Bosch and Aldo Van Eyck, it serves as a hub for the Faculty of Humanities, featuring lecture halls and a portion of the Arts Library. The building is named after the historian Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft and is known for its unique architectural design, which has sparked both admiration and criticism among locals and students. Its interior includes glass-walled lecture rooms that were originally designed to allow passersby to catch snippets of lectures. The building also houses offices, a study center, a canteen, and facilities for bicycles and fitness. The PC Hoofthuis gained attention during the 2018 University of Amsterdam protests when it was occupied by students, reflecting its significance as a center of academic and social activity.
