Mission Concepcion

Mission Concepción, established in 1711 and relocated to San Antonio in 1731, is the oldest unrestored stone church in America and a key site in Texas history. Originally founded to convert local Indigenous peoples to Catholicism, it played a significant role in the Texas Revolution during the Battle of Concepción in 1835. Designated a National Historic Landmark and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the mission features a sanctuary, nave, and convento, with remnants of vibrant frescoes. Visitors can experience Catholic Mass and witness a unique solar alignment event each August 15, making it a fascinating destination for tourists and researchers alike.
