Intheoaks

Intheoaks, also known as In-the-oaks, is a historic estate located in Black Mountain, North Carolina, recognized as a national historic district. This estate features a stunning U-shaped Tudor manor house built between 1921 and 1923, designed by architect Frank E. Wallis. The property includes a variety of recreational facilities such as a ballroom, gymnasium, bowling alley, and an indoor swimming pool, crafted by Richard Sharp Smith. Visitors can also explore the Caretaker's Cottage, agricultural outbuildings, and beautifully landscaped grounds designed by Chauncey Beadle. Today, Intheoaks serves as Camp Henry, a camp for young people, and houses the offices of the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in early 20th-century architecture and history.
