Diamond Rock Schoolhouse

The Diamond Rock Schoolhouse, built in 1818 in Tredyffrin Township, Pennsylvania, is a unique octagonal one-room school that reflects the educational practices of its time. Designed to accommodate up to 60 students, it features a central wood-burning stove and was constructed by Mennonite families. After closing in 1864, the building fell into disrepair until a restoration effort in 1918. It later served as a studio for artist Wharton Esherick and hosted various community meetings. The schoolhouse is notable for its historical significance, including a rumored visit from Abraham Lincoln, and is currently managed by the Wharton Esherick Museum.
