The Old U.S. Mint ('Granite Lady')

The Old U.S. Mint at 88 5th Street, completed in 1874, is one of the few major San Francisco buildings to survive the 1906 earthquake and fire largely intact. Designated a National Historic Landmark, it served as the city's mint until 1937 and later underwent preservation and adaptive reuse efforts. The building sits within the Civic Center area but is a lower-profile historic site compared with nearby municipal institutions.
