Coffin Block Building

The Coffin Block Building, located at the intersection of Front and Church streets in Toronto, is notable for being the city's first flatiron building. Constructed before 1838, this 3-storey Georgian structure originally served as an annex to The Wellington hotel and housed the office of the William Weller Stagecoach Company in its basement. The building's unique shape is a result of the converging roads, making it a distinctive landmark. It has historical significance as it reflects early transportation history in Ontario and was home to various businesses over the years. Although it was replaced by the Gooderhams' Flatiron Building in the 1890s, the Coffin Block remains an interesting site for tourists and researchers interested in Toronto's architectural evolution and history.
