Tilted Arc (Richard Serra)

Tilted Arc was a site-specific site-specific corten steel sculpture by Richard Serra installed in Federal Plaza in 1981 following a General Services Administration commission. The 120-foot curved wall became the center of a public controversy over site-specific public art and was removed by the GSA in 1989 after a series of public hearings. The sculpture was cut into sections and placed in storage; debates over its removal influenced later U.S. federal policies on public art and site specificity.
