Catacombs beneath Soldiers and Sailors Monument

Beneath Monument Circle the Soldiers and Sailors Monument includes a series of underground vaults and service spaces that are commonly referred to as the monument's 'catacombs.' These subterranean areas were part of the original monument construction and contain historical structural elements and utility rooms. Public access to the catacombs is restricted, though limited guided tours and special-access visits have been offered at times. The monument and its subterranean spaces occupy the central plaza of downtown Indianapolis.
