Lincoln Memorial sculpture and inscriptions

The Lincoln Memorial, designed by architect Henry Bacon and featuring a 19-foot seated sculpture of Abraham Lincoln by Daniel Chester French, opened in 1922. The memorial's interior walls are inscribed with the texts of the Gettysburg Address and Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address. The memorial sits at the west end of the National Mall and aligns with the Washington Monument and U.S. Capitol along the city's ceremonial axis.
