Old San Francisco Mint (the 'Granite Lady')

The Old San Francisco Mint at 88 5th Street was completed in 1874 and is notable for surviving the 1906 earthquake and fire with its vaults intact. It functioned as a U.S. Mint facility until 1937 and played a key role in the city's financial history during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The neoclassical building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been the focus of preservation and adaptive reuse discussions.
