Johnston Building (Charlotte, North Carolina)

The Johnston Building, also known as Midtown Plaza, is a historic 17-story office high-rise located at 212 South Tryon Street in Charlotte, North Carolina. Completed in 1924, it was the tallest building in the city until 1926 and features a Neo-classical design with a limestone facade. Originally housing various businesses, including cotton brokers and attorneys, the building has undergone several ownership changes and renovations. As of 2025, it is set to be transformed into The Beckworth Hotel, featuring 245 rooms, a coffee shop, ballroom, conference space, and a rooftop bar, with renovations expected to be completed by summer 2026. The building's historic significance has allowed it to secure tax credits for its rehabilitation.
