Eagle of Kayan

The Eagle of Kayan was a striking monument and assembly hall located in the scenic Kayan Valley of Baghlan Province, Afghanistan. Inaugurated on December 10, 1996, this eagle-shaped structure served as a cultural landmark for the local Ismaili community, symbolizing their historical ties to the Alamut Castle in Iran. Designed by engineer Aseemuddin Adel, it featured a small assembly hall and was accessible via a stairway, cable car, and vehicle road. Unfortunately, the monument was destroyed by Taliban forces in September 1998, marking a significant loss in Afghanistan's cultural heritage. Today, photographs from the 1990s serve as a poignant reminder of its existence and the impact of conflict on cultural sites.
