E. Boardman House

The Elias Boardman House, located at 34 Salem Street in Wakefield, Massachusetts, is a stunning example of Federal period architecture, built in 1790 by builder Elias Boardman. Known as 'Boardman's Folly' due to its extravagant design, this three-story wood-frame structure features a hip roof, intricate entrance surround, and a beautifully carved central staircase. Its unique architectural elements, including smaller third-floor windows and elegant pilasters, reflect the sophistication of urban styles found in Boston and Salem, making it a noteworthy site for tourists and researchers interested in early American architecture. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
