Carkeek Park shell middens

Archaeological surveys in Carkeek Park have recorded shell midden deposits and artifact scatters indicating long-term Coast Salish use of the shoreline prior to Euro-American settlement. Cultural resource assessments were conducted before park development projects, and the findings have been used in park planning and tribal consultation. The site’s documented prehistoric deposits are part of regional inventories of archaeological resources in Seattle.
