Wilhelminatoren

The Wilhelminatoren was a historic lookout tower located in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Netherlands, standing at 30 meters tall. Constructed in 1906 by architect Christiaan Alfons Prevoo, it offered stunning panoramic views of the South Limburg Heuvelland and beyond, including the cities of Aachen and Liège on clear days. The tower, built from local marlstone, featured a unique rocket shape with decorative elements like sculpted stone falcons and a prominent aluminum cross. Over its long history, it served as a café-restaurant and was accessible by cable car and footpaths. Unfortunately, the tower collapsed unexpectedly on March 16, 2025, during maintenance, marking the end of an era for this beloved landmark.
