Sextry Barn, Ely

The Sextry Barn, a remarkable 13th-century tithe barn located in Ely, Cambridgeshire, was one of the largest medieval barns in Europe before its demolition in 1842. It served as a storage facility for corn tithes owed to Ely Cathedral and was named after the sacrist of the monastery responsible for its management. Situated near St Mary's Church and Oliver Cromwell's House, the barn measured approximately 209 feet in length with impressive masonry walls and a distinctive oak-piered roof, making it a significant historical site for visitors and researchers alike.
