Gas Works Park - former Seattle Gas Light plant

The site at 2101 N Northlake Way was home to the Seattle Gas Light Company gasification plant, which produced town gas on the north shore of Lake Union from 1906 until it closed in 1956. After remaining unused as an industrial site, the city transformed the property into Gas Works Park, which opened in 1975 and intentionally preserved many of the plant's concrete structures and machinery as park features. The surviving industrial structures (including the retort house and condenser towers) are a prominent example of adaptive reuse of an abandoned industrial facility into public open space.
