Martin Melck House

The Martin Melck House, located at 96 Strand Street in Cape Town, is a remarkable example of French Renaissance architecture and a national heritage site of South Africa. Built in 1781 by the wealthy German immigrant Martin Melck, the house features stunning stained-glass windows and a unique belvedere attic that offers panoramic views of the city and Table Bay. Originally serving as a parsonage for the nearby Lutheran Church, the house was saved from demolition in 1929 and has since been repurposed as a cultural venue, including a museum showcasing 19th- and 20th-century gold art from West Africa.
