Pennsylvania Hall (Gettysburg, Pennsylvania)

Pennsylvania Hall, the oldest building at Gettysburg College, was constructed in 1838 and features a striking temple-style design. During the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863, it served as a hospital for nearly 700 wounded soldiers from both the Union and Confederate armies. The building has a rich history, initially housing student living quarters and classrooms, and it was the largest structure in town at the time of the battle. Today, it functions as the central administrative hub for the college, housing key offices including those of the president and provost. Pennsylvania Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, making it a significant site for both historical research and tourism.
