Moulin Rouge and 1955 desegregation efforts

The Moulin Rouge Hotel opened in 1955 as the first major racially integrated hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip. In 1955 the property was the site of agreements and negotiations that historians credit with advancing desegregation of Las Vegas hotels and casinos. The Moulin Rouge later closed and its original building has been the subject of preservation and redevelopment discussions.
