Shay's Warehouse and Stable

Shay's Warehouse and Stable is a historic commercial building located in New Hamburg, New York, notable for its unique architectural features and rich history. Built in the 19th century, it consists of a square warehouse and a rectangular stable, both of which retain much of their original structure. The building showcases Italianate style with arched windows and a distinctive brick-corbeled cornice. Originally used for the storage and transshipment of rags and cotton waste, it has served various purposes over the years, including a cooperage and a brass foundry, before becoming a boat-repair shop. Today, it stands as the only intact commercial building from New Hamburg's era as a river port, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in local industrial history and architecture.
