John D. Bush House

The John D. Bush House, located in Exira, Iowa, is a historic building notable for its connection to Jens Uriah Hansen, a skilled Danish immigrant craftsman and the first Dane to settle in Audubon County. Constructed in 1873, this well-preserved two-story frame house showcases Hansen's exceptional carpentry skills with its L-shaped design and gabled roofs. Originally built for John Bush, an early general store operator and postmaster, the house remained in the Bush family until 1935 and later served as a boarding house. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in local history and architecture.
