Mystery Castle built from found materials

Mystery Castle on the southern slope of South Mountain was constructed in the 1930s by Boyce Luther Gulley from found and recycled materials; Gulley said he built it for his daughter, Mary Lou. The property includes eclectic rooms, mosaics and artifacts and is open for guided tours run by the Mystery Castle Foundation. Gulley died in 1945 and is buried on the grounds, and the castle's improvised construction and personal backstory are central elements of its local lore.
