New York Earth Room (Walter De Maria)

The New York Earth Room is a long-term interior installation by Walter De Maria consisting of a large quantity of earth spread across a SoHo loft space; it was first installed in 1977. The Dia Art Foundation maintains the work at a dedicated gallery space and keeps regular public viewing hours. The piece is documented as an enduring example of land-art presented within an urban indoor setting and has been maintained as a permanent installation for decades.
