Lobang Jepang

Lobang Jepang, or Japanese Tunnel, is a historical underground military complex located in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Spanning approximately 6 km, it is one of Asia's longest tunnels, constructed by the Japanese army during World War II for defense purposes. Completed in 1944, the tunnel served multiple military functions, including storage and interrogation rooms. The site is notable for its historical significance, as it reflects the harsh conditions faced by forced laborers, known as Rōmusha, who built it. Opened to tourists in 1994, visitors can explore 1.5 km of the tunnel, which features various rooms and passages, including a kitchen room with a grim history. The site is a poignant reminder of the region's wartime past and attracts both tourists and researchers interested in military history.
