Hanover Square Rooms

The Hanover Square Rooms, established in 1774 by Sir John Gallini, Johann Christian Bach, and Carl Friedrich Abel, served as London's premier concert venue for a century. Located at the corner of Hanover Square, the venue featured a grand assembly room adorned with paintings by Giovanni Battista Cipriani and glass works by Thomas Gainsborough. It hosted numerous notable musicians, including Joseph Haydn and Felix Mendelssohn, and was a hub for subscription concerts attended by the royal family. The Rooms were known for their elegant atmosphere and were a key site for musical innovation until their demolition in 1900.
