Ebrach Abbey

Ebrach Abbey, located in Bavaria, Germany, is a historic former Cistercian monastery founded in 1127, making it the oldest Cistercian house in Franconia. The abbey features stunning early Gothic architecture, including a three-aisled cruciform basilica with a remarkable rose window and intricately designed interiors. Notably, it was the burial site for the hearts of Bishops of Würzburg. After its dissolution in 1803, part of the abbey was repurposed as a prison, which now includes a young offenders' institution.
