The Tsentrosoyuz Building

The Tsentrosoyuz Building, located at 39 Myasnitskaya Street in Moscow, is an architectural landmark designed by renowned architect Le Corbusier and Nikolai Kolli, completed in 1933. Originally serving as the headquarters for the Central Union of Consumer Cooperatives, this innovative structure accommodates 3,500 personnel and features a restaurant, lecture halls, and a theater. The building showcases Le Corbusier's modernist principles, including pilotis, curtain-wall façades, and free floor plans, emphasizing efficient circulation with wide corridors and ramps. Despite facing construction delays due to material shortages, the Tsentrosoyuz Building remains a significant example of Soviet architecture, praised for its design yet critiqued for its extensive use of glass and concrete.
