Dirty Duck (Portland, Oregon)

The Dirty Duck, formerly known as Gail's Dirty Duck Tavern, was a historic gay bar located in Portland's Old Town Chinatown neighborhood. Established in 1984, it became a cultural hub for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly known for its quirky atmosphere and as a gathering place for the Oregon Bears. The building, constructed between 1916 and 1917, was part of the Portland New Chinatown–Japantown Historic District. Despite its significance, the tavern closed in 2009 after 25 years of operation, following a decision by the Portland City Council to demolish the building. The Dirty Duck's legacy includes its role in local politics, music, and community building, making it a notable landmark in Portland's rich history.
