Kingsley Plantation tabby walls

Kingsley Plantation on Fort George Island preserves extensive examples of 'tabby,' a shell-based concrete made from lime, sand, water, and crushed oyster shells. The tabby walls and foundations of the plantation house, kitchen, and outbuildings date to the late 18th and early 19th centuries and are among the best-preserved colonial-era tabby structures in northeastern Florida. The site is managed by the National Park Service as part of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve.
