Wells River Graded School

The Wells River Graded School, located in Newbury, Vermont, is a historic building constructed in 1874, showcasing exquisite Second Empire architecture. This 1-1/2 story brick structure features a distinctive mansard roof, a central tower with an open belfry, and multicolored slate shingles. Once a school, it has been repurposed for commercial use and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Unfortunately, a fire in July 2022 caused significant damage, leaving the building in ruins as of 2023, raising questions about its future restoration. The site is adjacent to the Wells River Congregational Church, making it a notable landmark in the village.
