Belmont Hall (Newark, Delaware)

Belmont Hall is a historic house located in Newark, Delaware, built between 1838 and 1844. This 2+1⁄2-story, gable-roofed structure features a distinctive stuccoed brick exterior and a porch supported by elegant Doric columns. Renovated in 1911 in the Classical Revival style, it originally served as a private residence. In 1950, it was acquired by the University of Delaware to serve as the president's home and later transformed into a dormitory for honor students. Recognized for its historical significance, Belmont Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, making it a noteworthy site for both tourists and researchers interested in Delaware's architectural heritage.
