Fremantle Fire Station

The Fremantle Fire Station, located on Phillimore Street in Fremantle, Western Australia, was established in 1909 as the second fire station for the Fremantle Fire Brigade. Designed by the architectural firm Cavanagh and Cavanagh, it originally housed four horse-drawn vehicles, including an ambulance. During World War II, the station was repurposed by the US military as Marine quarters. In the 1970s, plans to demolish the building for a larger fire station faced opposition, leading to the construction of a new facility nearby. The historic building is now vested in the City of Fremantle and is listed on the Register of the National Estate, making it a notable site for tourists and researchers interested in local history and architecture.
