Bellair (Virginia)

Bellair is a historic farm located in Albemarle County, Virginia, known for its significant architecture and its ties to influential figures in the state's political, religious, and economic history. The property, which spans 250 acres, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. The main house features Federal-style architecture with dual chimneys, built between 1794 and 1817, and has undergone Colonial Revival style additions in the 1930s and further modifications in the 1960s. Notably, Martin Dawson, an early owner, was a key figure in the establishment of the Rivanna Navigation Company and a major benefactor of the University of Virginia. Visitors can also explore a smokehouse among other historic structures on the site.
