Frederick Douglass National Historic Site (Cedar Hill)

Cedar Hill was the home of abolitionist and statesman Frederick Douglass; he purchased the property in 1877 and lived there until his death in 1895. The site in Anacostia is administered by the National Park Service and preserves Douglass's house, grounds, and interpretive exhibits about his life and work. The museum and guided tours interpret Douglass's role in Reconstruction-era politics, civil rights advocacy, and his writings.
