Kaskel and Kaskel Building

The Kaskel and Kaskel Building, located at 316 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan's NoMad/Koreatown neighborhood, was completed in 1902 as a headquarters for one of New York's premier haberdasheries, known for outfitting the city's elite, including the President. Despite its historical significance, the building was demolished in 2017 to make way for a new 40-story tower, following unsuccessful preservation efforts due to its altered state. The site reflects the rapid changes in Manhattan's architectural landscape and the ongoing tension between development and preservation.
