King's Chapel crypt and burying ground

King's Chapel, founded in 1686, sits atop a burying ground and contains a stone crypt beneath the sanctuary that holds 17th- and 18th-century tombs and memorials. The crypt and adjacent buried plots document early colonial funerary practices and are accessible to visitors during certain hours, guided tours, and church events rather than being continuously open. Interpretive materials at the site explain the historical significance of the interments and the chapel's role in colonial Boston. Conservation work and occasional archaeological study have been conducted to preserve the subterranean spaces and monuments.
