Ford’s Theatre - site of President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination

Ford’s Theatre at 511 10th Street NW is the playhouse where President Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth on the evening of April 14, 1865. Lincoln was shot during a performance of Our American Cousin and was subsequently carried across the street to the Petersen House, where he died the next morning. Ford’s Theatre has been preserved and operates as a working theatre, museum, and historic site interpreting the assassination and its historical context.
