Teatro Principal (Guanajuato)

Teatro Principal, located in Guanajuato, Mexico, is an 18th-century Neoclassical theater that opened in 1788. Originally named 'Corral de Comedias,' it served as a cultural hub for all social classes during the city's mining boom. Renowned as one of Mexico's best theaters in the early 19th century, it underwent several renovations but fell into disrepair until the mid-20th century. After a fire in 1921 and subsequent closure, it was completely rebuilt and reopened in 1955 with art deco elements. Now managed by the University of Guanajuato, it hosts a variety of cultural events, including plays and contemporary dance, and is a key venue for the Festival Internacional Cervantino.
